Community Mentor
"Having youth around is a wonderful addition to the Island
and the opportunity to mentor is a delight."
-Richard Blagborne
Purpose: We believe in the power of the community to raise healthy, happy young
people. We want our team of "teachers" to include islanders of all ages, occupations, backgrounds and lifestyles.
Time: At least four hours per month, for either five or ten months, with the apprentice,
as well as taking part in a few SEEC events and programs.
Responsibilities:
- To share your place of business, hobby or inspiration with the learner in a way that promotes
exploration, discovery and knowledge.
- To participate in interviews and conversations, answering any appropriate questions the learners may have.
- To share relevant parts of your personal history so that our students may learn from your life path.
SEEC will provide:
- Coordination of structured mentorship activities
- Training and ideas for working and learning with your apprentice
- Special SEEC events for you and your apprentice to attend together
- Flexibility for you to create your own mentorship activities and experiences
- Resources, materials and funds to support your mentorship activities
Benefits:
- Expand your personal legacy
- Get involved in the development of your community
- Make a great new friend
- Re-awaken the energy and wonder of youth
