"Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies, Don't fence me in Let me ride through the wide open country that I love, Don't fence me in Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees Send me off forever but I ask you please, Don't fence me in...."

-Cole Porter

Purpose: Many potential outdoor learning sites on Saturna are located on private property. If you own, or are in charge of, a site that you feel has educational potential for our learners, we would appreciate it if you would consider sharing your site for field trips or projects.

Time: It's up to you to choose times and dates that work for you.

Note: We will strive to explore and learn from your site with care and respect. Our activities are designed to be minimum impact, ecologically sensitive and considerate of all human and non-human residents! We are often able to leave a site neater and/or healthier than it was when we arrived. We especially like to engage in site projects that allow us to act as caretakers for our natural and human communities!

Responsibilities:

  • A description of your property and the opportunities it offers to the learners.
  • Access to this property during times you select.

Benefits:

  • An opportunity to share your special place
  • Youthful energy to clean-up your site, re-naturalize it or adopt it as caretakers
  • A chance for young people to learn environmental stewardship skills.

Some sites we're looking for:

  • ponds or lakes
  • forests
  • broadleaf maple groves
  • streams
  • farmland
  • shoreline
  • beach access
  • dry bluff
  • docks or wharves
