SEEC Semester

FAQs

Q: Is it true that I'll only have to go to school 3 days per week?
A: Yes! But that doesn't mean you won't be working and learning seven days a week! SEEC students must take more responsibility for their own learning, deciding what they need to do and how, when and where they are going to get it done. Our current students use their own four days per week to balance jobs, personal projects, family time, extra courses and social connections.

Q:Where do we live on Saturna?
A: You will share one of our cozy cottages with some of your classmates. These are all within walking distance of the school, store, ferry dock and recreation centre!

Q:What is the school like on Saturna?
A: We are currently home to 15 students ranging in age from kindergarten to grade 12! Our two full-time teachers give us a fantastic teacher/learner ratio of 1 to 7.5!

Our two classrooms feature wireless high speed internet, a computer for every two students and more learning resources per learner than any school around! Our three-acre site features a unique playground, tennis, roller hockery and basketball courts, playing fields, picnic tables and a three-minute walk to a forested salmon stream or the beach!

Q: Isn't 8:30 to 5:30 a very long day?
A: Time flies when you are having fun! We combine work and play as much as we can and you get to set your own pace, activities and goals during afternoon flex time.

Q:What is a typical day at SEEC like?
A: We really don't have any typical days at SEEC. There is always something new happening! Our basic schedule looks a bit like this:
8:30: Morning meeting and energizers
9:00: Small group coursework
10:15: Recess break!
10:30: Group Exploration Challenge
11:30: Buddy Work with little learners
12:00 Lunch
12:45: Small group coursework
2:30: Individual Flex Time: pursue your own learning goals.
5:15: Head for supper with your Saturna family or the boat for home!

Q: When should I register if I'm interested in taking a SEEC Semester?
A: Right away. We only accept 12 students per semester. Don't miss your chance to be part of something special!
